(Draft)Petition to Support the Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) Plan to End Property Taxes in South Dakota
We, the undersigned residents of South Dakota, support Jerry Odom’s Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) plan to end the $954 million property tax burden (SD News Watch, 2021-22). This plan will:
- Fully fund schools using existing $1.5 billion sales tax revenue (SD Dept of Revenue, 2023) and $109 million surplus (South Dakota Searchlight, 2023).
- Provide lower rates for farmers and zero GRT for small businesses under $100K.
- Eliminate property tax,. keeping funds local.
- Ensure counties collect GRT locally, maintaining local control without state overreach.
By signing below, we urge the South Dakota Legislature to adopt this plan, ensuring economic freedom, accountability, and liberty for all South Dakotans.
