Spending

Government spending should align with the principles outlined by Thomas Jefferson, who advocated for a wise and frugal government. According to Jefferson, a government’s primary role is to prevent harm among its citizens while allowing them the freedom to pursue their own endeavors in industry and improvement. Crucially, Jefferson emphasized the importance of not depriving laborers of the fruits of their labor. In essence, good government should prioritize fiscal responsibility, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are utilized efficiently and effectively to serve the needs of society without burdening its citizens with unnecessary taxation. By adhering to these principles, governments can promote economic prosperity, individual liberty, and overall societal well-being.

The prioritization of essential public services, such as fire and police departments (guardians of liberty), first responders, schools, and possibly a new state guard, reflects a responsible allocation of tax funds. By investing in these services, we not only ensure the safety and security of our residents but also lay the foundation for a promising future. Quality education, free from indoctrination or ideological influences, is vital for equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in South Dakota. Therefore, directing our resources towards these critical areas is the most effective way to utilize taxpayer money and uphold the values of our state.

The prudent use of tax funds extends to preserving our parks and monuments, which serve as symbols of our state’s heritage and identity. It’s essential to ensure that these cherished landmarks remain well-maintained and accessible to all, without squandering resources in the process. By striking a balance between fiscal responsibility and the preservation of our natural and cultural treasures, we uphold the integrity and beauty of our great state for generations to come.

I am committed to meticulously combing through government programs and expenditures to eliminate wasteful spending and unconstitutional departments. No program will be spared scrutiny, and if it does not serve the people or the state’s interests, it will be cut. Additionally, those who seek to exploit government resources for personal gain will not prevail.
