Restoring Education to the States: A Decisive Plan for South Dakota

Education is the bedrock of a strong and prosperous society, equipping future generations with critical thinking skills and ensuring they are not subjected to anti-American indoctrination. To preserve these values, we must take decisive action to remove federal overreach from our education system, dismantle the Department of Education, and return full control to the states and local communities.

With President Trump’s commitment to shutting down the Department of Education, we have a historic opportunity to restore decision-making power where it belongs—at the state and local level. The influence of Washington bureaucrats and powerful teachers’ unions, which too often prioritize politics over students, must be eliminated. The responsibility for shaping our children’s education should rest with parents and local school boards, not distant officials with no stake in our communities.

As governor, I will champion school choice initiatives that allow parents to select the best education for their children—whether public, private, charter, or homeschooling. I will only support legislation that empowers parents, ensures transparency in curriculum, and reinforces the core principles of our constitutional Republic. We must prioritize an education system that fosters personal responsibility, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for American values.

This is not just a reform—it is a necessary course correction to secure the future of South Dakota’s students. We will decisively take back control from Washington and put it where it belongs: in the hands of families and local educators who know what is best for our children.

As your governor, I will only support legislation that empowers parents and promotes school choice. It’s crucial to establish a robust educational framework that instills in our future leaders a deep understanding of our constitutional Republic and fosters a sense of personal responsibility and Critical thinking
